All sense of time had been lost as far as I was concerned. We’d been in action for several hours now. In that space of time we, as a company had been badly mauled by the looks of things. Back at Estancia, we were probably abit too cock sure about the quality of the Argentine Soldier. So far, what I had experienced and witnessed, these guys were no push over by any stretch of the imagination. Varying in quality, let it be said, but none of them made it easy for us. Our mission as a company was to capture the main feature, but we had just about cleared the Western side of the mountain. Now A Company, though not as planned, were about to push through our positions and finish the job. B Company should not feel inferior about this, we soaked up a lot of punishment, and the guys wrapped in a poncho at the bottom of the rock runs were testament to this, never mind the wounded.

Sat at the top of the alleys we watched some of A Company move up just short of us and Jay made his way down to them. The gun teams on the summit spluttered back into action after getting royally pasted by the anti-tank gun. Red, orange and green tracer streamed across the back end of Longdon at enemies hidden in the darkness, give it to em guys, and fuck them up. Jay moved back up to us.

“Right then, scores on the doors.”

He had our attention.

“In a minute we are going to push forward out of here and get eyes on their main position. By what the A Company lads have said, it’s in a bowl of sorts, which drops down and away to the North. 1 Platoon are going to join us as a fire base, and 2 Platoon is going to push around the left side of the alleys and start to clear them out. 3 Platoon will be in reserve at the bottom of this alley.”

He paused as a series of loud explosions rocked the back end of the mountain, with abit of luck, that fucking anti-tank gun has been dealt with now. Once the bombardment eased off, he continued.

“5 and 6 are going to start pushing forward level with the bowl, to draw fire away from the static and exposed gun teams. Once the main position has been secured, we as a company will move back the way we came to an RAP being set up as we speak near the bottom of the rock runs, okay?”

We all nodded. The Regimental Aid Post, which is run by the Regimental Sergeant Major, is a location for dead and wounded to be collected, from both sides, and a prisoner holding area. Jay moved up to the top of the alley and began to move in a crouch to avoid being seen to a position where we could set up to support A Company. He moved about for some time, probably checking out alternative positions, should we be the focus of the enemy’s fury.
